Medical Massage Treatments
chronic pain relief | mobility | soft-tissue | injury
Medical massage offers the benefits of increased circulation, reduced inflammation or nerve compression, pain relief, and mobility support for those with needs related to both chronic pain and acute injury. Medical massage is outcome-based, meaning our treatments address a specific need, in addition to providing relaxation and stress relief.
Bozeman Medical Massage Treatments Available:
Neuromuscular Therapy
Soft-Tissue | Chronic Pain | Trigger Points
Neuromuscular Therapy or NMT refers to the manual application of specialized digital pressure and strokes, which can have either an assessment or therapeutic objective. The degree of pressure employed varies considerably between the two modes of application. The goal of NMT is to decrease spasm and ischemia, enhance venous and lymphatic drainage, and deactivate trigger points.
Myofascial Release
Gentle Pressure + Stretching | Physical Therapy Based
The myofascial tissues surround and support muscles throughout the body. Myofascial release is a physical-therapy-based massage modality that eases tightness and tension in specific trigger points. This approach is most effective when used over a broad area of muscle and tissue.
Positional Release
Tender Point + Movement | Chronic Pain
Also known as "Strain-Counterstrain," PRT is an indirect manual technique, combining the palpation of tender point (as a monitor only) with movement of the body part into a position of greatest comfort. This technique was discovered in 1954 by Lawrence H. Jones, D.O., and has continued to evolve as a vital tool in the treatment of acute, sub-acute, and chronic pain.
Lymphatic Facilitation
Injury Rehabilitation | Promotes Post-Traumatic & Post-Surgical Edema Removal
Lymphatic Facilitation is a manual modality that can be utilized during the acute phase of injury rehabilitation. The intent of LF is to assist the lymphatic system in its removal of excess fluids (secondary edema) during the inflammatory process. The strokes employed are light enough so that they do not cause pain or disrupt the tissue being repaired. The efficacy and rate of healing afforded by LF techniques helps reduce pain early during the acute phase, and allows rehabilitation to progress at an accelerated rate.
Custom Treatment
Whiplash | Car Accident | Other / Customized Treatment
SOMA takes a thoughtful, personalized approach to the massage therapy treatments we provide each patient. Depending on your injury or individual preferences, we will often combine multiple modalities for the most effective results. If you are seeking treatment for a specific pain or problem area — such as whiplash from a car accident, an old ankle injury that tends to flare up, or chronic discomfort — please let us know. We can create a comprehensive, integrative treatment strategy, beginning with a thorough assessment of your unique needs, situation, and goals. If you would like a particular modality for your appointment, we are happy to plan for your preferences.
As one of the few Bozeman massage companies that accept and bill auto insurance policy claims (when coverage is verified), we are glad to advise you in the claims process, in addition to providing injury-specific massage treatments.
